With more than 600 members and six independent sections, Helsby Community Sports Club is entirely volunteer-run, providing recreational facilities to our rural area. Over the past decade, we have worked tirelessly to increase junior membership (starting for 6-year olds) and via a series of school programmes, this is now comparable with senior membership.
More than 75 adults act as qualified coaches and provide behind-the-scenes support - annually volunteering more than 10,000 hours to the running of the club. Additionally, our Half-marathon regularly attracts a field of 2,000 – the 2014 event once more raising £20,000 for local charities.
2014 has also seen several of the club’s members gain county and national recognition in their respective fields.
Last June, more than 100 volunteers turned out in force for our Clubforce project. This saw fencing repainted, the car park and grounds re-landscaped, the foyer and lounge redecorated, changing rooms refurbished and new showers installed.
2015 marks the 25th anniversary of HCSC being established as an independent, volunteer-run club. Being voted ‘Group of the Year’ by CWAC would be just rewards to not just the club’s dedicated army of volunteers who currently serve the community, but also all those who have served before them.
Welcome to our news blog from this page we hope to keep you up to date with up and coming events and news from and about the club.
